From The Land - Genesis 2:6

Genesis 2:6 ESV 

and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground—

Water came from the earth instead of heaven in the form of a vapor or fog. The face of the ground, face means "the part that turns " -Strong's, was toward the land, for that was the source of water and life. The ground, that is man, had not turned to God, for there was no one to work the ground. No one had brought the light. Thus the earth didn't look toward heaven for rain, but got its water from the mist, or fog of the earth.
