Hebrews 7:15-19 ESV
This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. For it is witnessed of him,
“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”
For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness (for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
"After the order", based on the Greek word (μέν men; a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause)Strong's, seems to imply both a likeness and a difference. The tabernacle in the wilderness was representative of Jesus, but a shadow, a hint of the future. It told us something about the man to come. It was not the same as the Son of Man.
Just as the old covenant helped prepare the way for the new, Melchizedek gives a picture of the promised one to come. He pointed to the better and sure hope God predestined as sons of God. It's through this better hope we are able to draw near to God.
