Paradox

Luke 5:26 ESV
26 And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, We have seen extraordinary things today.

The Greek word translated here as extraordinary is shown below.  It is derived from two words: para and doxos.  They can be translated as "beside or in the vicinity of" and "glory", respectively. Is it any wonder that they would give glory to God in the presence of God? This is the unfettered and  spontaneous response that rises from the heart of one drawn close to the heart of God.

This speaks to the mystery that is God, and the many paradoxes of the gospel. The unbelievable is to be believed, the inconceivable is to be conceived, and foolishness turns out to be the highest wisdom.

How wonderful is our God
His riches are without end
How pleasant is the green pasture
Beside the still waters
There to live and flourish in love

παράδοξος * paradoxos
