The Prophetic Word - 2 Peter 1:16-21

2 Peter 1:16-21 ESV

For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The light of God shines on earth through the word of God. First in the written word of Scripture, then in the living flesh of Jesus Christ, and into the body of Christ which awaits His return.

Prophesy in Scripture is unique. No other writings expound on future events that then are fulfilled with an accuracy of 100%. Jesus is the Spirit of Prophesy which is the Son sent by God. This is the evidence by which we will know that He is God. We can be certain of who He is and what will come to pass in the fullness of time.

By these signs we know that He is God and there is no other. Jesus is the word of God and the word fulfilled. Through Him all things come into being, finishing with the sons of God as the crown of creation. It is then God will rest from His labor and creation will enter that rest.

In the days to come, let's look at some of the prophesy and it's fulfillment, bringing to remembrance the reason for our hope and confirm our faith in the future promised by the one who makes all things possible. We who believe the Lord are blessed above all others.
