Shall Be Called Holy - Luke 2:23-24

Luke 2:23-24 ESV

(as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”)
and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”

This is a picture of the Church. We are no longer male or female in the body of Christ. We are a holy people, the first fruits of the seed of God to be followed by a multitude without number that will enter the house of the Lord. 1 Peter 2:5 calls us a holy priesthood to the Lord.

A turtle dove and pigeon were part of the covenant making ceremony between the Lord and Abram in Genesis 15. Later one bird would become a sin offering and another would become a burnt offering in the Levitical system of sacrifice which would follow.

The sacrifices would point to the ultimate sacrifice to come, not offered by man, but by God. This ends all sacrifice by man needed  to be righteous in His eyes.
