Genesis 3:24 ESV
He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.
This flaming sword prefigures the sword of Christ's mouth that sets the world on fire with the word of truth. This is the only way to the tree of life, to the presence of God.
It is a double edged sword. The word saves or condemns depending if one believes God.
