Exodus 16:13-15 ESV
In the evening quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning dew lay around the camp. And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
The Lord provides for us as we journey through the wilderness of this life. Part of our walk with Him is coming to understand and recognize His providence. The Israelites wake up one morning in the wilderness to see something unfamiliar to them. The Lord had done a new thing.
It was bread from heaven and foreshadows the bread of heaven that is provided today to the body of Christ. It is the substance of Christ given for the nourishment of our spirits as we embark on our walk with Him. Like these people in the desert, we ask the same question, "What is it?"
We begin to learn the answer, even as we pray, "Give us this day, our daily bread."
We begin to trust as we trust Him for our future. He is our future, even as He is present. He is our beginning and end. In Him we have life everlasting.
Now we can share this bread with others. Just as Jesus fed the many long ago, when He breaks the bread there is always enough. Eat and pass it along.
