Revelation 21:1 ESV
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
In the beginning earth had no form. The dark sea covered the world.
God said, "Let there be light!,"
That light has come and will increase until the dark sea is no more. Something new will take it's place. A new heaven and earth will take shape, and the world will be covered with the knowledge of God. Adam's charge to subdue the earth will be done by the one he foreshadowed, that is Jesus Christ.
There must be light for a shadow to be cast.
