Son of Man

Matthew 8:18-20 (NIV)
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.
19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
20 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

His reply might have been His way of saying that He is not part of this world.  His home is elsewhere, just as ours is.

This is the first time He referred to Himself as “Son of Man” in the New Testament.  God called Israel His son.  Jesus came through Israel for His Incarnation, God taking on the flesh of man.  He came as a new man, not born in sin, but of the Holy Spirit.  In that sense He was a new generation.  At once, He was the Son of God and the Son of Man, Spirit and flesh together.

That generation was not complete until He was resurrected in His new body.  So it will be with us, for we are brothers and sisters in Christ and children of God.  His becoming the Son of Man made it possible.
