Fruit That Pleases

Matthew 7:19-23 AMP
19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. 20 Therefore, you will a fully know them by their fruits. 21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name? 23 And then I will say to them openly( publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly[ disregarding My commands].

What is fruit?
Who defines and has defined its meaning?

Galatians 5:22-23 AMP
22 But the fruit of the[ Holy] Spirit[ the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy( gladness), peace, patience( an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness( benevolence), faithfulness, 23 Gentleness( meekness, humility), self- control( self- restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law[ a that can bring a charge].

Ephesians 5:9-11 AMP
9 For the fruit( the effect, the product) of the Light or a the Spirit[ consists] in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart, and trueness of life. 10 And try to learn[ in your experience] what is pleasing to the Lord[ let your lives be constant proofs of what is most acceptable to Him]. 11 Take no part in and have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds and enterprises of darkness, but instead[ let your lives be so in contrast as to] a expose and reprove and convict them.

Fruit as defined by the Word of God.  It is the fruit that pleases the Lord.

Mat 6:13 Deliver Us

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Mat 13:19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.

Keep us in Your strong arms, for we walk in the wilderness.
Give us eyes to comprehend the light of Your presence, that it might light our way.
No one can snatch us away from your hand if we choose to abide in Your heart.
Let it be so this day, that by and through the power of Your Most Holy Son we walk confidently in the valley with our eyes on Your Holy mountain.

Covering

God fashioned coverings for Adam and Eve after they were cast out of the Garden. Later He provided another covering for their sin, the blood of His own Son.  The door is open for the return.

Mat 6:12 Forgive

Matthew 6:12 ESV
12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

It is scary to think that God's forgiveness is linked with our forgiving others, but then so is love.
Just as love flows from above, so does forgiveness. Both reflect the living water coursing through our lives. If we dam up the outgoing flow, the incoming flow is impacted. The less we hinder that living water, the more and faster it passes through our lives. The more we are blessed and bless others. It is to the glory of our Father.

Speaking And Listening

Spirit words are given utterance in all languages of man. There is One Spirit, but many men. There is One Word, but many languages and dialects.
Even if one uses "English", Spirit words spoken in that tongue are not understood by one that does not have the Spirit. An interpreter is needed and the purpose is life. When we seek the presence of the Spirit, He will guide us into all truth. He brings us into the things of God.
"Speaking in tongues" can and does happen in the everyday language. We can hear and recognize it.
Listen...

Asking For Wisdom

1 Kings 3:7-14 ESV
7 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. 9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people? ”

10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11 And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, 12 behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. 13 I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. 14 And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days. ”

Because Solomon asked and asked for the right thing, according to the will of God, his prayer was answered. God said yes, for He was pleased and that was His pleasure.  Not only that, He blessed Solomon with much more.
Solomon became the wisest man on earth, but the wisest thing he ever did was ask God for wisdom. The same is true for you and me.
Ask, knock, and seek
And it shall be done
Notice the word "if" appears again. Throughout the OT and NT, the same and eternal God says that we must walk in His ways. It is up to us ask and do. It has always been this way.

John 15:16 What He Chooses

John 15:16 AMP
16 You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you[ I have planted you], that you might go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting[ that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name[ as a presenting all that I AM], He may give it to you.

Isn't it interesting that the word often translated as "appointed" (see post on biblicalgreeknuggets.blogspot link at bottom of blog) can also mean placed or planted. Jesus is speaking of Himself as the vine and of us as branches. He attaches those who believe in His name to the vine of His body.
It is there, and only there, we can bear good fruit in God's eyes. It is not for a short season, but a continuous bearing of the fruit that comes from abiding in that vine.
Even though we are to remain in Him , we are to then go and be ourselves in Him, to glorify and give witness to the Father, and to truly live an abundant life. That's what He chooses for us.

Anything Is Possible

Science by definition is limited by man's thinking.  Our guesses guide us. Progress is incremental, unless chance or accident enter the equation, if we remove God as a possibility.

The Spirit connects us with God our Father, in a way deep and unutterable for it is beyond our understanding, yet yields the peace and understanding we seek.  With Him anything is possible.

John 5:6 If

John 15:6 (New American Standard Bible)  6"If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.

The word "if" implies choice. It points to the possibility that remaining in Christ is a choice we make. We can choose to wander off the path. We might choose not to return. The prodigal son returned and was welcomed with open arms by the father, but what would have happened if the son had not turned back and returned to the father?
There are many references in the Word regarding the endurance of the saints. The one who endures will receive the crown of life. Abiding is not a one time event, but an ongoing experience and process. It is a choice we make, a daily walk.

Mat 6:11 Daily Bread

Matthew 6:11 (New American Standard Bible)   11'Give us this day our daily bread.

God provided manna for the Israelites each day. He provided for their needs, and through this provision they lived and prospered. Yesterday was past, and tomorrow was yet to come. Each morning His grace was sufficient for the care of His people. So it is with us.
Jesus said He is the bread of life. Take and eat it.

1Cor 12:13 Drink Of One Spirit

1 Corinthians 12:13 ESV  13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body— Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

The living water
From the offered cup of life
To all that would drink

We are immersed in the Spirit and joined into the body of Jesus. The water runs deep.

Mat 6:10 On Earth As It Is In Heaven

Matthew 6:10 (New International Version)  10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

There is an unfolding of a plan that has always been. It is written that He was slain before the foundation of the world, just as it is written there will be one earth and heaven.
In Jesus heaven and earth came together in a most unique way, according to the will of God. He entered creation. The evidence remains in the heart of each believer.  The Son of God returned to heaven with a resurrected body. In some sense we might say that that creation has entered heaven and taken seat beside our Father.

We acknowledge our place in His kingdom and in His will. It is written that He will return. The Incarnation will then be complete, for heaven and earth will be one.
This is glory we keep before us. This is the hope in which we place our trust. We will not be disappointed.

Mat 6:9 In Heaven

Matthew 6:9 (New International Version) 9"This, then, is how you should  pray:

   " 'Our Father in heaven,...
Some say that heaven is God's presence. Others would say that He is in a distant place, far removed from the world of sin. There are some that would tell you He left heaven in the and came to earth in the form of man and that His Spirit was given when He left. His Word tells us that when we abide in Him, He will abide in us. Many will describe that as being filled to overflowing from the fountain of living water.
We are told in the Word that Jesus has gone to prepare a place and will come back for us. The splendor and glory of heaven is yet to be revealed, but it's got to be pretty good place because our Father is in heaven.

Now And Then

The Lord is not in all storms
Nor does He quiet every wind
But He does now and then

1John 4:8 God Is

1 John 4:8 (New International Version) 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

God is love, but that is not all that He is. Whatever notion or grasp we have, however shallow or deep, is not adequate to fully describe His love.
He is, at the same time, more than love. A few of those things come to mind: He is holy, true, just, light, etc.. To say He is one thing and ignore the rest displays an incomplete understanding of our Father and leans toward the danger of fashioning one's own image of God. He is bigger than just one thing and more than we can imagine. Limiting God to our understanding or to what we are comfortable with has no impact on His reality.
We can try to describe what God is, but He says, "I AM".

Luke 22:2 Put Him To Death

Luke 22:2 (New American Standard Bible)  2The chief priests and the scribes (A)were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.

The Greek word translated here as "put Him to death" I notice includes the idea of lifting up. It reminds me of the lifting up of the serpent in the wilderness before the Israelites to rid them of the plague of serpents, and how that was a "type" that foreshadowed Jesus.

ἀναιρέω,v  \{an-ahee-reh'-o}
1) to take up, to lift up (from the ground)  1a) to take up for myself as mine  1b) to own (an exposed infant)  2) to take away, abolish  2a) to do away with or abrogate customs or ordinances  2b) to put out of the way, kill slay a man

Mat 6:9 Hallowed

Matthew 6:9 (New International Version) 9"This, then, is how you should  pray:

   " 'Our Father in heaven,
   hallowed be your name,

We are to give honor and glory to His name. We do this with our lips, but we are to do so with our lives as well. We take His name and represent Him on this earth when we call Him Father and become His children.
Doing something less is taking His name in vain.

The Same Gift

The greatest gift I can give to another is point them to Christ.  The second greatest gift I can give to another is point them to the riches within themselves.  Both are the same gift.

1Cor 13:12 Face To Face

1 Corinthians 13:12 (New American Standard Bible)  12For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.

Who is that we see in the mirror? Who will we see face to face? When I look in the mirror I tend to see roughly the same face, though my sense and perception of that face changes. It is the one I call mine.
Its appearance changes as time goes on, but there is a change taking place on the inside as well. I hope to reflect more of Jesus as a result of that change.
God knows and sees us as we truly are. One day that will be the face that looks back at me in a mirror, and I will know. It is in the mirror of Christ that this will be revealed.

Mat 6:9 Our Father

Matthew 6:9 (New International Version)

9"This, then, is how you should pray:
   " 'Our Father ...

Approaching God.
Jesus gives us a model, a pattern in the way to come before God in prayer. It is in prayer that we open our hearts to Him and worship.
It begins with words that establish our relationship, with Him and with each other. He is our Father, not some distant and removed entity, but One Who is intimately interested and involved in our lives. We share in Him as children of the One God through His Spirit of truth and love.

Servant Friends

John 15:14-17 NIV  14You are my friends if you do what I command. 15I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 17This is my command: Love each other.
We are friends because of the love of the Father expressed through the words of Jesus. He commands we love each other. The revelation of Jesus and the giving of  the Spirit moved the disciples from the status of servants of the household into members of the house itself. It is the house that love is building. There is plenty of room. There is more than enough love.
He chose these men to reveal Himself. He chooses you and me today. It is the same Spirit and love that unites us as friends.
No longer servants, yet love compels servanthood to others. Jesus showed the way, washing the feet of the disciples and taking the form of a servant.

Be Blessed

Bless and be blessed.

Indispensable

1 Corinthians 12:22 (New International Version)  22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,

The word translated as indispensable from the transliterated Greek word "anagkaia" includes the sense of close kin, resonating with the idea of the one body which is Christ.
With the body analogy in mind, which part or portion of our body is nonessential and who is of less worth than another? Who is not a brother or sister? Don't we all have the same rank in Jesus, that of child of God? Each one is indispensable. He loves all His children.

Where You Are

Be the light where you are, for you are the only one in that place.

Walked Among Us

He that was with the Father
Even from the beginning
Walked among us
Entered into our existence
That He might show the way
To and with the Father
To walk with Him in new life

Mat 10:11-12 Accepting As Able

Matthew 10:11-12 NKJV  11 But He said to them, “All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given: 12 For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it,let him accept it.”
Can we understand the working of God? We can only see in part. Who knows the spirit of a man except God? Each one of us is a field where the seed of the Lord is planted. We are called to nurture that seed and to seek the harvest of the Father.

A man often does not know his own spirit, but God knows. We certainly don't know enough to judge someone else. We do know enough to trust in Him and to find His peace.

John 1:26 Among You

John 1:26 (New International Version)  26"I baptize with water," John replied, "but among you stands one you do not know.

John the Baptist is quoted in John 1:31 that he himself did not know the One that would come baptizing, not with water, but with the Holy Spirit. But he did know that One was in their midst. That was why he was there and he knew he would recognize Him when the time came. The Spirit would reveal the Son of God, as He does even now.
Because of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, Jesus says that the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John the Baptist. John was born of woman, but we are reborn as children of God. Our eyes are opened. We know Him and that He stands with us.

Acts 4:31 Was Shaken

Acts 4:31 (New International Version)

31After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
They came together and as one called out to the Lord for boldness, for strength in proclaiming the word.  Their witness was facing the continued resistance and hostility that eventually caused our Lord to hang on the cross. He came. The Holy Spirit filled them, overflowing into the place they were gathered. They indeed spoke the word of God boldly and the world was shaken.
This is the church. May we gather in a place that is shaking.

Mark 10:15 Like A Little Child

Mark 10:15 (New International Version)  15I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."

Yes without reservation
Trust without hesitation
Nothing held back
Joyful in the receiving
In awe and wonder
Humbly walking with the Father
Unafraid
Fully conscious without being self conscience
A brother or sister of Jesus
A child of God

1Cor 1:1-3 Perfect In Him

1 Corinthians 1:1-3 (New International Version)  1Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,

2To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:
3Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul tells us that we have been purified and set apart to God through Jesus. This has been accomplished. We receive it when we receive Him. We do so by believing and placing our trust in Him, by making Him Lord of our lives.

We are holy only because His sacrifice makes it possible for us to be holy.  We are holy because He is holy and we are in Him.  We are not perfect, yet perfect in Him.
For that reason we have the grace and peace that only God can give.

Isaiah 1:18 Let Us Reason Together

Isaiah 1:18 (New International Version)

18 "Come now, let us reason together,"
       says the LORD.
"Though your sins are like scarlet,
       they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
       they shall be like wool.

Our mind might be considered as that portion of our existence positioned between body and soul that acts as the bridge to God. Reason can lead to and increase faith in God, but is just as capable of leading one to rejection of God.  That decision leads to eternal life or death.  That is why the Lord says, “let us reason together”.

Rev 12:17-13:1a On The Sand

Revelation 12:17 (NASB)  17So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

Revelation 13:1a (NASB)  And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore.

Because the offspring holds to the testimony of Jesus, this must refer to the body of Christ, of those who place their trust in the Son.  The dragon does not place his trust in or on that rock, but continues to stand in the sand of his own will and hate.
He will only stand for a while. Though he has been defeated, he seeks to take as many as he can down with him as he can.  He was a murderer from the beginning, the agent of death through the sin of disobedience.
With cold and merciless eyes, he looks out over the sea of humanity.

Give Away

What you do not give away of yourself dies with you.

John 1:26 He Stands

John 1:26 (New King James Version)  26 John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.

All of creation speaks of this One, yet we did not know.
The light of the world entered creation, but was not recognized.
He walked among man, but was viewed by most as only a man.
He is in our midst today, yet many do not know or ignore Him.
He stands at the door of every heart.

In A Circle Around Him

Mark 3:31-35 NIV  31Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you."

33"Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked.
34Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! 35Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."
There is but one Father.  His family arrives but stands on the outside looking for Him, but He is looking for a different family.  It is the crowd that sits at His feet, on the inside, listening to His words and living in joyful response.  How beautiful is the body of Christ.  It is His blood that binds and His Spirit that enables.

The Fact Of Wisdom

Proverbs 3:19 (New International Version)

19 By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations,
       by understanding he set the heavens in place;

Science seeks facts.  Given enough facts one will eventually arrive at the wisdom of God.  The Bible reveals the wisdom of God and allows access to that wisdom without requiring one to know all the facts of creation, and that's a fact.

Manifest

John 14:21 (New King James Version)

21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
He came and comes among us. He took our flesh and gave us His Spirit. Though hidden in our hearts, He is made manifest in our lives, and so we live in His love.

Thinking

If you think you know
You probably don’t
If you don’t think you know
You probably know more than you think
This is how you will know, I think

The Way

John 14:26 (New International Version)

26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
The way to God is God: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

An Immovable Rock

Zechariah 12:1-3 (New International Version)  1 This is the word of the LORD concerning Israel. The LORD, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the spirit of man within him, declares: 2 "I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. 3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.

The world will gather
But the Lord will scatter
In that day when they reach for that cup
And seek to rid themselves of that stone
For He is the Rock that will not be moved

Words

Mat 12:33-37  33"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."

Words reveal the heart
And each will be will be judged
On what is stored there

A Shriveled Hand

Mat 12:9-10 (NIV) 9Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"
Jesus had just told these experts of the law they did not know what the law means.  It is not surprising that when Jesus goes into their "church" He finds a man with a shriveled hand.  He is about to show them again the meaning of Sabbath.

A Different Way

Matthew 2:12 (New American Standard Bible)  12And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.

When a wise man encounters Jesus, he takes a different path home.

My Name

Malachi 1:11 (New International Version)

11 My name will be great among the nations, from the rising to the setting of the sun. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to my name, because my name will be great among the nations," says the LORD Almighty.
From one end to the other.

Troubled

Matthew 2:3 (New International Version)

3When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.

Water is troubled
The status quo is shaken
The mountains tremble

What's In A Name?

Matthew 1:21 (New International Version)

21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
Trouble is you've got to believe it to receive it.
So what's in a name?  Here it is salvation.
His name stands for the Truth of God and the authority of the Almighty.
God is saying "I am the way to me."
If God is one and Jesus is God, then this ought to be easy.
If you dismiss the Word of God it becomes so much harder, in fact impossible.
We wait now and so does He.  We can decide what to do with His revelation, but in the end He will make the final decision.

Till I Entered The Sanctuary

Psalms 17:9-17 NIV
9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven,
and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 Therefore their people turn to them
and drink up waters in abundance.
[c]
11 They say, "How can God know?
Does the Most High have knowledge?"
12 This is what the wicked are like—
always carefree, they increase in wealth.
 13 Surely in vain have I kept my heart pure;
in vain have I washed my hands in innocence.
 14 All day long I have been plagued;
I have been punished every morning.
15 If I had said, "I will speak thus,"
I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand all this,
       it was oppressive to me
 17 till I entered the sanctuary of God;
then I understood their final destiny.

The sanctuary of God is in the heart.  There the Word, Spirit, and the Father make their home, a place turned from a threshing floor into the Holy of Holies.  Where He is there is peace.

Sword Of My Mouth

Revelation 2:16 (New International Version)  16Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

The Word gives witness
A sword which separates the things of God
That cuts into the flesh of the world and its foolishness
He has spoken
He speaks
And His words will not return empty

If You Know

Proverbs 30:4 (New King James Version)

4 Who has ascended into heaven, or descended?
Who has gathered the wind in His fists?
Who has bound the waters in a garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
      What
is His name, and what is His Son’s name,
      If you know?

Who was it that calmed the storm, Who commanded the wind, "Be still"?
Who is it that brings those who believe into the life of His body?
Who is it that knows the end from the beginning.
We know His name: Jesus, Son of the Father.

Take Root

James 1:21 (New International Version)  21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

The seed has been planted
The bread of life is given
Let the Word take root

There is power in the Word.  It is for salvation.

Zeal For God

Acts 9:3-4 (New International Version)  3As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"

Consider Paul.  He was misguided and destructive until he met Jesus, though he was completely confident in his own wisdom.  He then saw the world in a different light, the very light that covered him on the road to Damascus.  May that light shine brightly on us all and our eyes grow accustomed to His light.

Hebrews 11:13 (New International Version)  13All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.

They were far away
Yet in the distance they saw
The place of their rest

Good And Evil

Perhaps one does not truly have a knowledge of good and evil until he has been reborn, for it is then he knows the good of the Lord and therefore evil.
The joy of life begins at the drawing of Spirit breath.

Who We Are

The things that we love
Give witness to who we are
As the things we do not
